Does anyone know where the Netsuite Usergroup has gone?
r
m
great stuff, Thanks!
I see you are an admin of the group. May I suggest that https://usergroup.netsuite.com/users/ should redirect to https://community.oracle.com/community/netsuite NOT https://community.oracle.com/community/netsuite/users/ As I suspect that many old usergroup users would not be able to find the new usergroup.
r
yes, I think some users have the old site bookmarked so we will consider a cname redirect to the root NetSuite domain in Oracle.

Are you planning on migrating the old usergroup content across?
r
all content was migrated and you can find your posts by clicking your username > Your Content
m
Maybe I’m just struggling with the new user interface, but I’m struggling to find old posts with search. I’m not too fussed on my old posts, I’m more interested in finding the wealth of knowledge that was on the old UG
r
I don't think you have any posts but the search function will include all migrated content. Here's a search for keyword 'formula' - https://community.oracle.com/search.jspa?q=formula&place=%2Fplaces%2F6731742&depth=all
m
I did have some posts under my old username, but that would have been a different email. I see the search, but that seems to be searching all Oracle documentation.
r
the search needs to be contained to the NS user group, try this:
first, you need to log into the site > go to the user group https://community.oracle.com/community/netsuite/users/ > type site builder into the search bar
m
This is the dead-end i landed before - from typing in https://usergroup.netsuite.com/users/
r
what's your username? it doesn't look like you are logged in > you can use this page to reset your password if needed - https://profile.oracle.com/myprofile/account/forgot-password.jspx
m
I am logged in with my new oracle account, but my old username for the NUG was “mgeale”. Oracle login uses an email address.
Shouldn’t communities such as this be public anyway? Barriers like this means the data can’t be crawled by google, and is the same reason Slack groups like this exist. Netsuite is a very difficult platform to learn, documentation is often patchy, support is often slow. it is really important that collaboration between users is easy
r
ok that's a new profile - do you see the Register in NetSuite button when you go to https://community.oracle.com/community/netsuite

This Slack group makes me sad, as Slack is the worst platform choice for this kind of information.
r
I understand but the NS communities have always been private. Same as SuiteAnswers. Once you register I'll approve you
m
Is that you might be able to change politically? It just doesn’t make sense. The internet is about public information, how to use software and make solutions should be public information
r
Thanks Michael - you are all set to browse the forum
m
Thanks for that.

m
Ok searching the community is working now.
Would it be possible for you to suggest to the Netsuite team to make the Netsuite community public?
r
yes, we will discuss internally but I can't say whether this will change in the future
m
I understand that it is not a simple change. I do feel really strongly about this. Netsuite has a steep learning curve. There are thousands of people out there wanting to collaborate (hence this slack group). Making collaboration more difficult will only increase user frustration with the Netsuite product. Most Netsuite users would rather solve a problem themselves rather than contact Netsuite support - so this is costing netsuite lots of money in support.
The main reason I am slow to recommend Netsuite to my business colleagues is that it is a very difficult platform to learn, and consultants are $200ph. The more information out there, the cheaper it is to implement/maintain. The happier the users, the more the users recommend the product to others.
SCA is a prime example. Great product, So difficult to work with. Documentation is very patchy. Developers are few and far between (we have one agency in Australia). Having a thriving online community would really bolster the product uptake. I could not recommend SCA to people unless they had a big budget because the implementation was so difficult.
r
I think product management will be more active in the SCA space on the new site. That said, there's certainly room for improvement
m
Let me just share this from one of the fastest growing tech companies in the world. Take note of the post counts - https://community.shopify.com/c/Shopify-Community/ct-p/en
All public, all crawlable.
Contrast to this private Slack group where Steve Goldberg is answering questions on the product directly. Then in a week’s time the response will practically be lost forever. Such a waste of knowledge and effort.
r
yes, they are growing fast. I know the content here expires after some time and I'm sure that's one reason people come to the user group.
Michael, I hope you find some useful information on the new site. I'm in EST and have to drop off but feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the new community at oracle-community@netsuite.com
m
No probs, thanks for chatting. I really hope this helps the team choose the direction the community goes.
r
Thank you for sharing that. All valid points and definitely worth taking a closer look at. I appreciate your feedback.
