I can't delete a role because it says it has dependent records. There are no custom field, workflow, script and user that are linked to it. What else can cause this?

Can't you click the dependent records link to see what they are. Also you could just inactivate the role instead

I think the History itself is the dependent records. You can't delete a role if it was used to login already, because the login audit trail is now a dependen record.
