Hello NetSuite Pros, please let me know if there is a better place for this question, but I am having the darnedest time with RMAs and the Customer Return Variance Account. When performing an RMA for restock, NetSuite is crediting the entire amount to the return variance account. Does anymore know how make it credit the COGS account?
m
i think you set that account on each item record
j
Unfortunately, you can not set duplicate accounts on item cards. From what I have read on NetSuite documentation and reddit, NS is suppose to credit COGS but for some reason it thinks the whole cost is a variance despite the amounts being the same
On the Setup >> Accounting Preferences >> Items/Transactions, there is a setting for default Customer return variance account
j
Unfortunately, we have more than one COGS account based on item class.
m
That default customer return account only sets the field on the item record by default
The field on the item record is what controls the posting I believe

@Michael McNamara - If I try and follow your suite help post and blank the variance account out it reverts upon saving the record.
I was able to blank out the default variance account on the accounting preferences section though.
Inactivating the variance account in the chart of accounting fixed it!
m
Whaaaaaat?
You mean chart of accounts
j
Correct! Got excited haha
m
Cool. Glad you got it worked out.

I really appreciate the help @Michael McNamara and @MGBC. Both were on the right track!
