We are aware of this issue and we are currently working in the new release that would fix it. We will notify you when it is available.
In fact, first tools to be released would be SDF CLI and WebStorm plugin, so no need to move to VS Code 😉.
In the meanwhile, as you have mentioned, you could use deploy as a workaround or upload the files using the UI.
