had an odd question asked by someone and am not sure if this is possible. they would like to duplicate an estimate custom form but as a sales order form. is this even possible?

If the fields that are needed for your estimate form are in sales order form, I think you can use sales order. Just go to Customization>Forms>Transactions Forms> Standard Sales Order Form
