<@U5TF1GQ20> when we use the {recordname.fieldname} formula to source a particular field from a particular location.

I usually create a search on the record that you're working with and then use the formula builder and the field dropdown. Find the field that you're after and then see what it translates to.

Unless there already is a field-picker where I'm working.

Where are you trying to insert the formula?

the recordname in your formula is the id of a join

do what <@UP0GS40AF> suggested to see what joins are available in your formula

if what you are looking for is not there, then you will probably need to create another field to select your sales order

and then have a second field source data from the sales order select field
