Has anyone else been experiencing an issue with applying an unapplied payment to an old invoice? We were the getting "GL Transaction in a closed period" error and it's due to the fact that when we try to link the inv and payment together a currency revaluation gets created and for some reason it's trying to do it in the closed period instead of the current period. Our settings are setup so it should do it in the current open period and it's how it worked in the past. This issue started around Oct 2022 so I am wondering if it's a bug from the update.
Funny enough Netsuite sent me this info, but seemed to ignore the second paragraph that seemed to confirm that it should work unless there is something I am not understanding. SuiteAnswers 82954: Posting Periods for Realized Gain and Loss: "When a payment is applied, the currency revaluation posts in the later of the source transaction or the payment transaction period, provided that period is open."
---second paragraph--- If the source and payment transactions are both in closed periods when the payment is applied, the accounting preference Default Posting Period When Transaction Date in Closed Period determines the currency revaluation posting period. The posting is in either the current period or the first open period, depending on the value selected in the accounting preference

are you saying you posted a payment, closed the period (without running the reval) and then run reval in the next period?

My understanding is that have a payment from a customer without an invoice so the payment is unapplied. They had an old open invoice and they are trying to clean up the AR and want to link the unapplied payment to the invoice to close it. To do so they normally go to accept payment and select the invoice and the unapplied payment as a credit. Normally the reval would be created in the period they are doing this exercise, but now it says "The G/L impact of a transaction in a closed period cannot be changed." To my knowledge I don't think they changed any process regarding when they run currency revaluations and nothing changed on a system level. Example of an invoice with a payment applied on 10/14/2021: Invoice: 6/30/2019 Payment: 12/4/2020 Currency Revaluations: : 10/1/2021 Currency Revaluations: : 10/14/2021

I just tested it in my environment and did not run into any issues. There is something else at play that prevents them revaluing, eliminations issues, for example. in other words, not related to the payment applications

Are you saying you were able to apply an old invoice and payment in a closed period with no GL errors? If so, interesting because NetSuite said they were getting the error, but I guess they are using an internal QA environment that mimics our system. Thanks for checking

no, I am not saying this, i do not think anyone can post transactions in the close periods….i did post invoice and payment in different periods in 2020 and then closed multiple periods through Dec 22 (no activity, just close), then run revaluation in jan 23, no problem.
somehow I did not read in your message you were trying to post a transaction in a close period..

So after you closed the period, were you able to take the old payment with unapplied amount and link it to the old invoice in the current period (Jan 2023)? No new payment is getting created, but there should be currency revaluations popping up for the day you performed the action.

I had no issues applying unapplied payment (via Accept Payment). no messages popped up.
on that note, another Payment record was created dated today

ok thank you. Hopefully Netsuite can figure it out. They put it down as a U4 issue but we are trying to get them to escalate it

I almost certain it is not related to payment so suggest to look in other areas
