Data collection will end for the Google Universal Analytics (GUA) service on
July 1, 2023. You will no longer be able to use the GUA service to collect new data, such as new visitor data to your NetSuite Commerce web store.
Note: You can still analyze existing data gathered through GUA for an additional six months (until January 2024).
To continue to use Google’s analytics services to analyze new data on your site, you must implement Google Analytics 4 (GA4).
You do not need to take any action if:
• You do not use Google Universal Analytics.
• You do not intend to use any Google Analytics services.
• You have already migrated your site to use Google Analytics 4.
Required Actions
Although data collection in GUA will not end until
July 1, 2023, you should start now to implement Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on every site. Implementing data collection in GA4 now means you will be able to collect data in two separate systems for several months before the data collection in GUA ends. You can compare the data collected in GUA with the data collected in GA4. You will have months to tweak and optimize the data collected in GA4 before the GUA data collection you are familiar with ends.
Note: Per Google documentation, you will not be able to import the data collected in GUA into GA4.
Many NetSuite commerce setups use Google Tag Manager (GTM), a free service from Google. GTM allows site operators to quickly and easily implement code snippets required by third-party services, such as Google Analytics. If your site is already set up with GTM, then most of the steps you must take occur in your Google accounts (outside of NetSuite). Refer to documentation from Google:
Make the switch to Google Analytics 4.
Whether you have a Site Builder, SuiteCommerce, SuiteCommerce Advanced or SuiteCommerce MyAccount site, you probably need to prepare for the end of GUA data collection on
July 1, 2023. See the following sections of this notification for the required actions for your type of site:
•
SuiteCommerce, SuiteCommerce MyAccount, and SuiteCommerce Advanced 2018.2+ Sites
◦
Alternative Implementation for SC, SCMA, and SCA 2022.2 or newer sites
•
SuiteCommerce Advanced Mont Blanc, Vinson, Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, and Aconcagua Sites

SuiteCommerce, SuiteCommerce MyAccount, and SuiteCommerce Advanced 2018.2+ Sites
SuiteCommerce (SC), SuiteCommerce MyAccount (SCMA), and SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA) 2018.2 and newer sites should implement GA4 using Google Tag Manager (GTM) and the SuiteCommerce Google Tag Manager Editor extension.
The SuiteCommerce GTM Editor extension provided by Oracle NetSuite simplifies the setup and management processes of adding these code snippets. If you are already using the SuiteCommerce GTM Editor extension, you will need to update to the latest available version (at least v1.4.0).
For more information, see
Google Tag Manager, SuiteAnswers ID 49108.
•
Alternative Implementation for SC, SCMA, and SCA 2022.2 or newer sites
• It is possible that SC, SCMA and SCA 2022.2 or newer sites can also implement GA4 without using GTM. However, be aware that GTM implementations offer better reporting and analysis opportunities than implementations without GTM.
• For information on implementing GA4 without GTM, see
"Google Analytics 4, SuiteAnswers ID 106875.
SuiteCommerce Advanced Mont Blanc, Vinson, Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, and Aconcagua Sites
Sites built using versions SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA) Mont Blanc and Aconcagua (2016.1 to 2018.1) should use Google Tag Manager (GTM) and the SuiteCommerce Google Tag Manager container generator.
The SuiteCommerce Google Tag Manager tool has been updated to support Google Analytics 4.
For more information, see
Set Up Google Tag Manager (SuiteCommerce Aconcagua and Earlier), SuiteAnswers ID 78701. See the subsection
Google Tag Manager Container Generator.
Note: For more information the updated container generator tool, go to the DEVELOPERS.SuiteCommerce website:
Generate a Google Tag Manager Container.
SuiteCommerce ShopFlow and Site Builder Sites
Oracle NetSuite does not have a ready-to-use solution for all sites built on older technology.
If you want to implement GA4 on sites built on ShopFlow or Site Builder, you will need to have a developer implement it, as it would be a customization to your site’s code.
Patching Guides to Allow Use of Google Analytics 4
Oracle NetSuite has created new patching guides to allow you to use Google Analytics 4 with these types of sites:
•
Enable Google Analytics 4 (SCA 2019.2 – 2022.1), SuiteAnswers ID 107530.
•
Enable Google Analytics 4 (SCA Vinson – 2019.1), SuiteAnswers ID 107531.
•
Enable Google Analytics 4 (Denali – Mont Blanc), SuiteAnswers ID 107532.
