best suggestion on getting value of specific inventory items that were both brought in on a receipt and sometimes adjusted?
k
What is it you are looking to solve with this?
m
@KevinJ of Kansas getting the valuation of our inventory
initial question was a little confusing, really just need the specific cost of all inventory (past and present) ....
k
The inventory valuation report doesn't work for you because of serial numbers then?
m
perhaps it is good, but exporting that at a serialized level is a fair bit horrendus
also adding anything like bin seems impossible...but perhaps I am trying to do too much with base NS
k
It seems to me that perhaps you are trying to do a smidge too much with a single search. I'd have a seperate search for bin/serial combinations. This is actually a problem I need to solve for a client project I'm working on at the moment, so I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
m
Perhaps that is true - thanks for your feedback! I'm open to all ideas! We also like to track GP on an item / serialized unit level...which perhaps is also a smidge too much?
k
That probably depends on how you are entering transactions. Are you assigning Serials to Sales Orders?
You might be able to get to that one using an invoiced save search even if you aren't, but I'm not 100% on that
m
Assigning them at fulfillment
But I think the concept may be the same then
Yeah, I don't think so. Saved searches seem to always want to pull valuations / profitability on estimated GP...which is crazy to me
k
"estimated" should be the same as actual unless you've done something funky to the serial number in this case.
(for instance - lets say you have average costing option on serial numbered items instead of specific cost)
m
wait, seriously?
k
I probably use "should" a bit generously. I have yet to encounter a situation where it does not.
Also - I just ran an inventory valuation report - and pulled in the serial number from the "on Hand" drop down, and "ungrouped" item.
that seems to be a pretty downloadable format.
I can't figure out how to send screenshots here, otherwise i'd send you the example.
m
i appreciate all your time! so the est gross profit reverts back and updates the SO after fulfilling?
it can really only estimate it up until you fulfill...
k
No - but it'd be available on the invoice most likely.
m
ahhhh
k
*assuming fulfillment occured prior to invoicing.
If you assign the serial number to an SO, it definitely brings in the correct value, but I don't think it retroactively updates it.
m
thanks for your time again kevin. unfortunately, i think it's more a problem with our customizations at this point
k
Most people don't touch serial numbers with customizations with a 39 and a half foot pole if they know what's good for them! It's unlikely you have customized that part of your account.
