Would someone be able to explain when you would use a service item vs non-inventory item in the case of subscription plans?

Not sure if there is any difference which item to use (out of these two) when it comes to subscription plan. Assuming you are not using projects

A service item is an item you create to track time and record billable hours. Service items are classified as Services for Purchase, Services for Resale
A non-inventory item is something that a company purchases for its own use or for resale but does not track in terms of quantity.
so like the implementation of the subscription product is a service item
the saas subscription is a non inventory item

@Dylan Shaver I knew the overall NS definition but didn't know if there were any special implications when it comes to subscriptions. We are just using service item for sale for our monthly dues.

Yes, there are some implications when it comes to subs. Have you opened up the rev rec and deferred revenue? What is the specific scenario behind your Q?
