does anyone know how to change the Recognition Account in a revenue element?
s
I don’t think you can because it’s linked to the item record sales account on the sales order.

Correct. @LYNN SCHMIDT the only way to do this would be to delete the revenue arrangement, update the rev rec rule on the item record (which is tied to your SO) and then regenerate the revenue arrangement/elements. Also this is ONLY possible if the Revenue Plan has not yet posted any rev rec JEs. If that has happened, in my experience your only option is post reclass entries. You can look into more complicated options like memorized txns or even JEs with their own revenue plans on them if you have a large volume of txns to deal with but hopefully it's a small impact and you can just get away with reclass JEs. I believe that NS is looking into other ways to address this but they need to stay within Rev Rec guidelines which basically don't support the ability to change the rev rec stream of an order. Hope that helps, and also hope I'm either wrong or changes are coming soon!

@PaulJ this all get started when the item was setup with the wrong GL acct #. Since then we have gone into the item and changed it to the correct account number. Would we have to void out the original sales order and enter it back in for this to be correct?
p
If you delete the Revenue Arrangement associated to the Sales Order it will take the new item configuration. If the revenue arrangement/Plan has already been processed you won't be able to delete it without deleting the JE so yes, at that point if you want this to be clean and it's only one transaction it would make sense to fully bill and credit the original SO (creating a revenue stream that will REVERSE the incorrect order along the same time-span/schedule) and then create a new SO to post correctly. Note that if you've already BILLED the original SO (partial or complete) then you'll need to clean that up as well to keep your AR clean. Hope that helps!
