Is anyone familiar with the process of getting development accounts as a user? We had dev environments that came as free because we purchased a Sandbox. However, NS is saying we should renew them while we still have the Sandbox active. Has anything changed recently?

At one point NetSuite were giving three free dev accounts with each sandbox. I believe that this changed now and they charge for them separately. We were able to keep ours because we had them before the change. A couple months ago they asked all customers who had dev accounts to reconfirm they wanted to keep them, otherwise were nuked.

I can confirm they do now charge separately for them. However the cost is very reasonable, around 5-10% of a full sandbox. We were asked to confirm if we used ours, which we did confirm, but they took them away earlier this year despite that. We had no option to keep them for free. The biggest issue is that if you want to keep the data on your developer account, you have to renew it while it is active, or within 30 days of it being unavailable, after which time NS will discard the data from it. If you don’t care about what is on them, then the timing of when you renew doesn’t matter.

Yeah. NS let us keep ours after confirmation until our renewal. At renewal we had to start paying for the sku. We originally lead with “give us our dev acct at 100% discount” as one of the negotiations and they seemed to prefer lower uplift instead of the dev account. Didn't make sense to me because they made less money. Maybe it costs more money OCI than it did in the outsourced data centers? 🤷‍♂️

We've just signed our renewal and this didn't come up

Perhaps it all comes down to how valuable a customer you are to NetSuite. We aren’t a huge company by any means, so they could afford to lose some of our business. I bet they’ll work harder to make big customers or partners happy.

Thanks everyone. It's confirmed. They changed the process. It's just frustrating that they didn't notify us. We were forced to pay $28k to revive our accounts. 😔

In our case, the notices of the change were going to a former IT director’s email address (who hadn’t work at our company in four years), so it caught us off guard as well. Make sure Netsuite has updated the contact info, so the right people get notified.

Ours disappeared today
