Anyone able to give advice on best way to create assembly items from exiting info in Kit/packages? 1. I have kit/package items - some have already been turned into assembly/boms. But the other kits need to be converted into assembly/BOMs 2. Also need to change the names of the existing Assembly items (because their names were wrong)

For creating an assembly item from a kit - you should export the kit with the components and then reimport as an assembly item. For changing the name of the existing assembly items, export with Internal ID, fix the names in excel and reimport as an UPDATE. I would only include the Internal ID and the name column (or other values you are intentional changing).
