is it possible to do an import to update a bunch of the Journal Entry's line value? (add back vendor name) i kept getting an error message asking for more info like it's treating it as a new JE import
n
What fields are you mapping? Screenshot? Are you using the Setup Import/Export or the Financials Import?
k
it's the NAME field within the Journal Entry line. I booked a bunch of entries but wanted to enter the vendor name in there I was using the import assistant
n
What methodology are you using to match your update to the specific line of the JE?
k
i just pulled the internal ID of each journal entry, and have the NAME data entered on the CSV, hoping that it would work by selecting UPDATE instead of ADD
but i think the tool tried to add new lines to this JE instead of updating all the lines within
also with CSV import - is it not possible to import Cheque (check) transactions within Banking? I don't see this option within the import assistant
n
Yes. I would start an saved search export of the JE with line identifiers. Then reimport those lines as an update. I would also use the Setup Import/Export.

AH i need the internal ID by line not for the whole JE record hmm wait it's the same ID, i think i just gotta try the different tool*
thanks!! that makes sense
n
For Cheques you can import via Setup >> Import/Export. Import Type = Transactions, Record Type = Cheque
k
nice!!
oh geez not sure why i didn't see it before
k
only way to update the JE is to overwrite the sublist. Imports will add additional lines to the JE
unless that box is checked
There's no "line" option on JEs on the import.
n
I exported the satisfactions inc Amounts, Account, Ids etc. Add the Name to the CSV. When I reimport it I overwrite the sublist on the import as I couldn't match the Line Unique ID. Result is an updated transaction.
k
oh did it work for you?
let me try that in a bit
n
Yes, it worked. but test that it works the way you want. There is a keyed field for matching in my account which looked promising called "Journal Entry Line : ***line"
OK, good news. On the Mapping, match the "Line ID" of the journal line that you want to update to the "Journal Entry Line : ***line"
All I needed was JE Internal ID, Line ID & the new value for Name.
k
now i'm just getting a crazy error
n
Omit the amounts and accounts. It’s only an Update.
k
at first i only had the line id, JE id, and the name but it wouldn't let me

n
are you doing Update? Also on Advance Options select OVERWRITE SUBLISTS
thumbsup parrot 1
k
yes to update but i didn't do the advance options
let me try again!
Overwrite Sublists so that's what it does!
urgh still getting this error Please enter value(s) for: Account, Department

OH it worked if i were to use the other file with all the fields filled out
it basically replaced the old JE
n
welcome to the world of "infrequent" CSV requirements. expand you list and do more testing before you go for your complete update.
k
thank you so much!! it's already pretty impressive what it's able to do
