Hello - we have a line of business that is not in Netsuite yet. We are moving the self service portion of it from a home grown system, using a legacy backend to a third party Self Service ordering system. That third party handles prepaid transactions but not invoicing. For customers that request an invoice, they will send us a feed. We're planning to import the feed into Netsuite.
Our original thinking was that we would import invoices, but we are thinking maybe we would import as Sales Orders and then invoice, since invoices require items to be configured (they're not currently). This is primarily so that revenue recognition would be more automated. Otherwise we would manually create journal entries, based on a report from the third party. (This is what we do today, only from the legacy system.)
Is our assumption correct that if we import as invoices, Netsuite can't calculate rev rec?
We're also considering a quick and dirty set up a single product and import the invoices with that product. We'd have to a custom field on the invoice to have the name of the actual product, so the customer sees the correct item.
What else should we be thinking about as we make our decision?
Thank you!
