field is blank on an item report, but the field has a value on the item record?

Inventory Valuation Summary

report, and it's blank on maybe 10% of items but filled in for the rest

Shot in the dark, but it could be that those items were not received using an item receipt, so no purchase price was ever recorded. Is it possible that the items with blank fields were adjusted into inventory rather than "purchased"?
