Hi, is anyone familiar with BOM control methods? I want to assign obsolete dates on some items so they can no longer be used in future assembly builds. I read multiple BOM control SA articles, which all explain the following method: 1. Go to Lists > Accounting > Items. 2. Click Edit next to the assembly item record you want to set. 3. On the Purchasing/Inventory subtab, in the Effective BOM Control list, select Revision Control. My problem is that I cannot see the Effective BOM Control field on the form, even though the field is checked to be visible when I customized the assembly item form. Any advice? Thanks!

If you are using advanced BOM's, I don't think the Effective BOM Control field will be on the item record anymore. Rather, you have to go into a seperate BOM record to update revisions

Thank you so much @Howard - I was able to add the effective end date and test the assembly build using different dates. What I noticed is that the the default BOM revision will change based on the build date, however the obsolete BOM revision will still be available. Is that on purpose?

I think that is true for a stand alone assembly builds. The effectivity dates has more use when creating work orders as well as tying routings to BOM's
I don't think anything stops it form a user selecting a revision that is deemed obsolete on AB's. What you might want to do is create a workflow that prevents the user form selecting the obsolete revision on the AB. That should be relatively simple to do
