That could work. Reason why I want to hide the fields is to keep certain user roles from seeing them. Was going to restrict the button to the roles I want to make it available to. Sounds like I could do the same with a checkbox

Consider using After Field Sourcing with a checkbox. This is an example of toggling mandatory.
