What do you guys use for tracking the standard cost for kits? I'm trying to see if there's a better solution then a weekly map/reduce script that stores the standard on the item/kit record, and then give a report from that.

convert to assembly item records instead of using kit\package item record type.

We do that for some items, but we're moving away from that. It creates too many issues having to produce work orders to handle the outgoing fulfillments. I ended up creating a custom record to track costs by element for each item record, and then summed the finished goods on the kits.

you are right a custom record would be essential. if you want to streamline it, a script is necessary for automation in capturing what should be the correct standard cost based on the effective date.
