Is it just me or has message volume plummeted here [on this channel] over the last year or so assuming due to the rise of AI?

It's not just you; yes, it has. It's very interesting what's going on with AI. I've come across PMs who can't hold themselves back in meetings now and are acting as engineers or architects because their confidence is skyrocketing after they started using Claude, for example. This is creating noise and unnecessary back and forward at entirely new levels. My personal estimation is that by 2030-2035 there is going to be so much code and processes to fix / refactor due to AI miss use (while at the same time in that period Junior developers intakes was shrinking due to AI use) that it would be very profitable for senior engineers.

I had the pleasure of sitting in on a meeting recently in which someone was boasting they had built something in a few weeks with Claude, that would have taken one or more devs "several months". I asked who was reviewing the code... turns out he's using another AI to review the code. ๐Ÿง Fills me with confidence.. NOT!

> it would be very profitable for senior engineers. It will be very profitable, yeah. But, man, the spaghetti that will be waiting for you then. It will be on another level.

it definitely feels like very strange times to me. business has slowed down a bit here this year. AI is the easy thing to blame, but maybe we just need to adapt and change/grow with the times

By adapt you mean using AI? or doing something else than programming? I mean... being against it completely is not wise, I guess. But depending fully on it doesn't seem to be a good idea.
