Sales order created at plant1 work order created at plant2 for line 1 of sales order work order parts created and transferred to plant 1 parts are not committing to the sales order.. any idea why this is happening?

The work orders must be linked to the Sales Order lines created in Plant 1, those are special Work Orders which would promise the resulting inventory to those specific Sales Order lines and would commit only to those lines. If the Work Order in plant 2 is created as an Standalone Work Order then there is no link.

Maybe the extra step of transferring is what is causing this, you should not need to transfer, meaning the Work Order would be BUILD to output the inventory to the location the Sales Order is.

But based on the screen shot the fact the Work Order is there in the Create WO column make it special work order, there are more details you need to check I don't remember from the top of my head, there is a commitment setting at the work order lines level but I believe that is for components. One important thing is: Once it is an special order it would promise the inventory to that line and would not let you to commit it to another, there are a lot of variables there also depending on which configuration you have etc... manufacturing is a whole entire beast itself.

I feel like these may be a couple oddball sales orders, because our ecosystem is miles away from perfect

Yes. If you have 2 manufacturing plants, I’m assuming you have 2 warehouses at least? Making each Waterhouse default for each plant? Just wondering if the sales orders are coming in - are they being associated with the right warehouse before the order is committed and approved?

3 locations 1.Warehouse - never ships only receives 2.Plant 1 - stores completed skids/ships from normally 3.Plant 2 - ships from occasionally. The Sales Orders are created for either Plant 1 or 2. The Work Orders created are almost always at Plant 2, when complete if they need to goto plant 1 to ship they get inventory Transfer but even when the inventory is transferred it doesn't commit
