Is there a bundle or some native way to ensure tax nexuses are always up to date with proper tax rates? We're going to be collecting taxes in 40 states and don't want to manage this. We do not want to use Avalara bundle*
s
you can download/import tax table from Netsuite for all the states. Note that to update you have to do it manually. If you are looking for auto updated tax table then paid Avalara or Reuter's One Source is only option.

Okay thank you
c
at this point I would refer most customers to Avalara. The global solution for ONESOURCE has a lot of built in roadblocks

We're using avalara on our site to calculate taxes at checkout -0 but when I import order I already know calculated tax rate. We want to store it on SO and use pre-calculated values for any order changes
The bundle has been problematic and we dont want to double pay for API calls - we can just export at EOM and upload all transactions - but if during lifecycle of order - tax rate changes, it wont be most up to date value
c
so has Avalara changed how they bill? I thought if transactions were related you were charged for the final invoice? maybe its different with a webstore
k
I'm not 100% privvy to the details - but management would prefer we use native tax calclation where I just pass the tax value at time of orig transaction -- I was wondering if there was any way to always have updated nexus rates just in case its problematic
I think there are several components
address validation, tax calculation, returns submitted, etc etc.
c
time of sales order vs invoice isnt quite the right tax answer..mgmt knows that right? In some jurisdictions you dont get to rush to make a bunch of orders before rates change and keep the old rate once invoiced
k
We collect 100% of payment upfront and its cash sale in netsuite - but sometimes orders change, customer forgot to apply promotion etc - 90% of time its order change within 72 hrs
I dont know what they know, I just do what I am told 🙂
Occasionally it may be an upcharge / item change whch requires additional funds or refund - but I think odds are the tax rate wouldnt change 99.999% of the time for a given order - cant allow changes indefinitely anyway only before they ship/are confirmed by vendor
