the idea is that your opportunity is based on your project estimates which is your cost pretty much. You create your opportunity from the project record and then go from there. you can also invoice directly from project avoiding SO stuff. Not sure if you need Quote and SO or you provide it as the native flow. Not sure who recommends creating SO, you only need SO if you sell something else outside of your project stuff (say, licenses, and project is for T&M). Keep in mind it is super difficult to change invoices - you have to go all the way back to charges and remove them and start over (my customers' biggest complaint).

Thanks @Karina appreciate your insight. So you would recommend NOT using sales orders? Do you recommend using Charge based billing for all/most projects? If so do you just manually setup all the Charge and Rev Rec rules for each project??

It really depends what you are selling. If it is just hours you can avoid SOs all together, but if you need to sell a product along with the service then you must use SOs. Yes, charge based billing is the best way since it covers everything you may need/NS offers

That's what I've been reading too. Charge based is the way to go.
Most of the sales are pretty simple its a Saas model so some one time setup charges, then ongoing costs billed either monthly or annually for use of the services

I just really struggle as there is so much setup on the project, Charge Rules, Rev Rec Rules, etc. Anyway to avoid this or any tips on making this setup process easier?

I know, projects is not the best NS product imo, it is complex and unforgiving but there isn't really a better way to record billable hours and convert it to rev.. (do not know about OpenAir aka SP Pro, I only set rev for OpenAir, and that was fine, but still there are limitations similar to plain SPs)

and yes, you have to set up rules. Good thing is you do it only once for each project
