Looking for opinions. A NetSuite partner has implemented a client I am working with, the partner deployed all of their customisations as locked bundles; this means the client cannot modify anything that was customised. Thoughts?
s
If those customizations were created bespoke for this specific client, they should not be locked. On the other hand, if said customization was some 'product' from the partner, merely installed for this client, it's more reasonable to be locked (though I personally still disagree and believe in being open [unlocked] across the board)
It better not have been my employer that did that.
c
It's a fair point to ask if these are bespoke for the client or not. That's going to be my first question tomorrow otherwise I need to get these unlocked.
s
I think it's very reasonable for you to ask for them to be unlocked regardless.
Hopefully the licensing agreement has the client as the technical owner of any code created on their behalf.
c
The IP rights will be crucial to the unlocking conversation.
s
If it is a 'product' of sorts, putting myself in the partner's shoes it would be reasonable for them to 'unlock' the files for you or otherwise provide the code, but also then be off the hook for supporting any changes made by others or supporting new versions of the product, unless there's some sort of ongoing agreement to such.
c
Client is trying to leave the partner and I'm helping them hire a new team to bring everything in-house. No BRD, no technical specs, and locked bundles for all customisations.. thanks partner.
s
Aye, worst practices across the board, congrats! this is fine fire

pfft requirements. only amateurs need those. everyone knows these projects work out best if you just wing it. /s (obviously)
