Scenario : This client builds high dollar value artisan items, they may only use a BOM 1 or 2 times. Each BOM has 3 or 4 custom made brackets which are purchased externally. The cost of the brackets range from $10-$200 depending on the complexity. I'm looking for a way to get the right cost with the brackets into the assembled build. I tried purchasing as Special Item but the costs gets averaged when multiple units are on hand. Is there an item type that could do this with one 3 or 4 part codes across all items instead of creating 3 or 4 new product codes for one off use each BOM?

Lot or serialized items would give you item specific costing but would require the whole assembly to be lot or serialized Also possibly FIFO or LIFO might work depending on the way they use inventory

I will try Lot. We considered F/LIFO but too many different pieces in the schedule. Serialised is what we were landing on.

Serialized items have Specific costing as an option. In these cases, each serial number will have the brackets directly tied to it. Lot is an average cost across the lot.

@Netsuite Tragic for high value items, better use Standard costing to lessen impact of fluctuating average cost -- else, you can do an Inventory adjustment revalatuion of those 1 off items first, so it will be forced adjusted to other COGS or Expense u prefer, rather than being absorbed to WIP. hope this make sense.

Yes. Thanks for that
