When looking at Rev Rec Start and End Dates on the Revenue Recognition Templates, one option for the Term Source is "*Rev Rec Dates Specified on Sales Order",* sources the sales order the revenue recognition period is determined by Rev Rec start and end dates entered on the sales order. Is this only available if you have ARM? We don't see those fields on our Sales Orders at all.
k
you would not see them without ARM. but you can create them yourself, no harm. but no purpose, either. these fields are used in revenue arrangement record to calculate revenue plans. you sure can create these records yourself and all associated calculations. Or maybe buy light ARM after all? If you do not need allocations light ARM should work for you
n
We are testing how to set Rev Rec Start and End dates on invoices. Right now we currently have a script that the old Admin wrote and we want to determine if it is necessary or if we can use native netsuite functionally. We have celigo pushing orders into NetSuite as Sales Orders, once we bill the rev rec gets applied on the invoice. When looking at the term source and seeing the second option "*Rev Rec Dates Specified on Sales Order"* made us think we could source the start and end date from the sales order, which could in turn be set from celigo.
k
are you saying you have legacy aka classic rev rec feature?
n
It looks like it? From searching it appears VSOE is the legacy one?
k
oh!!! exotic!! I have only seen couple of those. Well, depends on what your rev rec is it actually might work for you!
n
I don't know if that is good or bad lol!
k
not very good πŸ™‚. very old feature and no longer supported per se, no development for it…
n
Interesting. I have not been made aware of this, do you know how difficult the process (or if at all possible) to move to the current revenue recognition? Off the top of your head.
k
but it does allow you to recognize revenue separately from billing and does create rev rec schedules for you so you do not have to use manual calcs, and it should be able to create journals out of those schedules..
it really really depends what you guys have in terms of rev rec
n
Okay, yes it is creating all the journal entries for the rev recs. I think I am understanding a bit better. If we upgraded and wanted rev recs we would have to pay for ARM? Right now we are getting a decent deal because the rev rec schedule we have been using have worked for us.
k
if you use allocations you should use full ARM. but is sounds like you only need ratability, so this feature works for you. only old farts know this stuff though! πŸ™‚
😁 1
if what you have works why improve it?…
n
Agreed. For now we have asked about ARM to NS directly and they said for our use case we wouldn't need it.
k
here here, we agree πŸ™‚
n
One bit is getting confused about the cost of ARM, if we went from legacy rev rec to ARM that is increase in cost right?
Or are there different levels of ARM?
k
then yes, those fields you mentioned will be usefull for you to add to your SO templates
there two now, used to be one, now two. One is just lets you create ratable rev rec over a period of time, the other allows you to allocate it as well
you do not sound like you need allocations, so it is one and the same for you in the end. New shiny toy is not very new really
n
How does the rev rec template know what fields I I am creating for the uses of the rev rec start and end dates though?
k
there are system field for that
rev rec start date and rev rec end date
n
Oh gosh I was looking for them yesterday and was looking under the wrong tab in the SO form.

Always appreciate your help! How do you think the hawks will do this season? I think we talked a little bit about pete getting "pushed out"/
k
i cannot tell ya how excited I am!!! going to buy some tickets this year!!! you?
n
I have only been to one hawks game in my life. If I was in Seattle area I probably would try and see one a year, but the cost of the tickets deters me from traveling to see them lol.
k
one game for me as well, we lost to Rams LOL so this year i am buffing up to one game for sure
n
Sorry to bother you, but the rev rec start and end date on the sales order looks like it is not at the item level, which is a bummer! Looks like we may need to keep some coding. As we do bring in amendments onto existing sales orders.
k
no bother
how is it not on line level?
n
I am a big Mariners fan, and my first sport is baseball, but I started playing Fantasy Football nearly 10 years ago now and that got me into actually rooting for the seahawks lol. Before that I didn't have too much care.
k
in the new ARM there are two native fields rev rec start date and rev rec end date at the line level, and they are not used because you cannot map them to revenue arrangements - now I know these are OLD rev rec fields, so they should be at the line level in your instance, go look more
n
This is why I didn't see when looking yesterday. It appears only on the accounting tab for the SO.
I can't see an option to show it on the line level of the SO.
k
but this is item level, no?
n
k
what do you have on your SO form?
at the line level?
n
Ah.
I got it.
k
yep, that must be them
n
Do you know what the difference between the line items and the rev rec start and end date of the accounting tab does?
k
nope 😞. but do test and share results!! I am interested now! but for your system generatedschedules you want to use line level stuff always
πŸ‘ 1
n
Will do.

k
oh, btw, you can now proudly say that you have old ARM πŸ™‚. which is true and sounds great!
you also may want to look into revenue commitments which allow to recognize revenue separately from billing (not at the same time or amount).
n
Haha perfect! It does looks like when I add the rev rec fields to the the form on the line level it takes away the rev rec start and end date on the accounting tab...
πŸ‘πŸ» 1
k
makes perfect sense
n
Benefit would be if we bill late the revenue commitments can still happen in the right period?
k
nah, you do not tie your billings to your revenue, they are independant
n
I do have to jump, might PM you for some more information about revenue commitments.
As always, appreciate the help!
