We are going to be moving to a new warehouse in the coming months. We use RF-Smart and I may come up with a new naming convention at the new warehouse. Therefore, I need to Bin Transfer every item to a central "staging" bin in order to assign the item a new bin. What are best practices for this? edit: we have thousands of SKUS and thousands of bins.

I suggest contacting RF-Smart Support. Would be beneficial to have the warehouse employees do a "Bin Transfer" when moving off old warehouse shelf into "moving bin" before Transferring from "moving bin" onto new warehouse shelf? having it counted / transferred by the warehouse would add a double check for the count?

I agree. I just don't have complete faith in that.

I'd probably look into Inventory Adjustments since they're CSV-importable. No clue how that would impact RF-Smart, but that's what I've done in the past.

I mean that would work. I don't see bin transfers being able to be CSV imported

Is the new warehouse going to be using the same location? If it's not then an inventory transfer would work and can be uploaded via csv. if it is going to be the same location then it would involve two inventory transfers, one to take it out of the current bin and put in a different location into a temporary bin and then the second inventory transfer to move it back into the originating location into the "staging" bin. Make sure you have a process in place for dealing with inventory discrepancies when putting away and their is not enough inventory in the staging bin.

Sounds like a mess in one way or another. Thank you everyone for feedback.

yeah either way it gets pretty messy. the proper way would be to do it via Transfer Orders, but that is not very feasible for moving a whole warehouse in a short timeframe. moving it all into a staging bin is not a bad idea just have to account for the discrepancies and fix them as soon as possible. and then doing a full physical count once complete.

@Tim Chapman - I would move items by their product type so I could setup/stage them correctly in the new warehouse. Then CSV import Transfer Orders for each product type. Then have my staff create the IF for what they are sending to the new location and either receive it into a temp bin at the new location or receive it into the new location and bin it is going into. Transfer Orders account for items that go missing during the transfer of goods. I don’t think I would use RF smart for this…maybe for the linked IF & IR but not to create the Transfer Order.
