How is this usually handled in NS? In our manufacturing subsidiary, we now have 3 working shifts (8am to 4pm, 4pm to 12am and 12am to 8am). These resulted in 3 manufacturing work centers in NS. Although the manufacturing routing steps are the same regardless of which work center does the step, the manufacturing cost templates have higher costs in the afternoon and graveyard shifts (due to indirect and direct labor costs, etc.). When creating a manufacturing routing record, it forces us to select a manufacturing cost center and cost template for each routing step. Although these can be edited in the Operation records of the Work Order, it seems that we are still stuck with one manufacturing cost template and one work center per routing step. What we are expecting is to be able to create a Work Order Issue and Work Order Completion that allows us to select the manufacturing cost template and work center PER TRANSACTION. Use case: The WO was started in the morning shift and was continued by the afternoon and/or night shifts. Is that not possible in NS?

Can you make/assign 3 routings per assembly? One for each shift? Then update the routing on the WO when it’s started based on the time it was started
Or have the user choose the routing before starting

But a routing step from the same WO can be completed by 2 or more shifts. For example, the morning work center performed step 2 but they were not able to do it for all inputs due to equipment limitations, etc. So they create a WO Completion afterwards. Morning shift ended. There are remaining inputs or raw materials. This will be done by the afternoon work center. This is still Step 2 of the same WO. They will create a WO Completion as well but now they aren't able to modify the work center and cost template anymore. Technically, they can but it affects all transactions related to the same WO instead of just that WO Completion itself.
Simply put, we are looking for a way to create multiple WO Completions for the same WO and for the same routing step BUT different work centers.

What if you did 1 routing which was your “lowest cost” routing. Then made a non inventory item that impacted your indirect labor account and the cost was $1. Then add that to your BOM for the assembly Then during the WOC the user would add the quantity of the extra cost? So it was $100 then they would add 100 qty Or alternatively you could possibly set the cost of your non inventory item to be your hourly overhead then use a WF to copy the total labor hours from the routing into the qty field for that non inv item after submit

Is that a confirmation that NS does not really support it natively? Thanks for the workaround solutions. I guess we don't really have a choice. We'll just also add a custom field to the WOC to store the actual work center because we have some reports and KPIs per cost center.

Correct, NetSuite only supports static routings.

Thank you. We also realized we could probably just create one routing step per work center in the same routing record.
