Pricing question: What's considered best practice if you want to upcharge for items if they aren't bought by the case/box? Let's say I sell a 12pack of beer for $24, but you can also buy individual bottles for $2.50 each. I'm using multiple units of measure to purchase my 12 packs and I stock them as individual eaches. I don't want to use multiple items so that all my inventory and costing for each item is in one place (kits may be an exception?). What approach would you take?

The issue with qty based pricing is as soon as you break the threshold that's the price you get. I didn't articulate this very well - the client wants to upcharge any time a qty is not a multiple of the case qty. So in my above example, if you bought 14 beers, 12 would be at $2/bottle and the last 2 would be $2.50 each for a total of $29.

I think in most scenarios you may be best off just keeping it simple and using a kit for the 12 pack and a regular item for the bottle and stocking separately.

Thanks Hunter - that's the approach I was considering as well. A few challenges such as scanning UPC codes and pulling up the right item but at least you can track inventory under 1 item and sell it at both prices or qtys.

You can always use a kit item
Stock in individuals that you order in 12 packs. Then when you sell it - you have the individual price, and then when you need to sell a case - you use the kit item
Revenue is no longer directly tied to the item, but... you get the desired pricing impact and then you can just be sure to combine the kit item with it's member when looking at profitability
