Probably a rookie question - but I don't claim to be an accounting expert. Can credit memos be applied to invoices without affecting the quantity of the item(s) on the invoice? I'm seeing an item on the "Items Purchased" subtab of a customer record with a QTY of 0, and a reduced amount when compared to the invoice.
