We need it to change the employee subsidiaries for expense reports. But we can't change an employee subsidiary, there is even a proposed enhancement number 150756 (from 2012)... What's the workaround for this? Create a new employee record is all we have?

There is a function for intercompany time and expense - but you need to evaluated it carefully
For example, if you have multi-subsidiary customers it's not compatible
(or at least, it wasn't for a long time)

Sounds like you'll need multiple employees for each sub they can file an expense report in
Probably still warrants looking into it to see if it is still incompatible
They've made some improvements around multi-sub customers lately
I just haven't kept good track of them so I don't know offhand

as far as I know, the inter company time and expense is only applicable to project records - so it allows an employee in one sub to enter time/expense to a project in another sub. but if you don’t use projects and just want an employee’s expense report to be in a different sub, yes you’d have to create a new employee record. If the employee is truly moving subsidiaries you’d probably want to do that anyway rather than just having them enter expenses to a diff sub, as subsidiary on the user record also drives other things.
