I'm new to NS and Im Trying to offer customers the option to accept a GC as a refund method. Is there a way to add a liability account to the cash refund form under accounts
e
Fairly certain that account has to be an account of type Bank. I think I've tried to do something similar using a non-Bank account.

Yes. A Netsuite account listed as Bank type can only be used for the cash sale account. Hey Trey!

is there any other way i could achieve this. it seems very simple. I would like funds from the refund recorded in the Gift card liability account so that it decreases the account correctly when the Gift card is used

Did you set up the gift card as a payment item in Netsuite?
You can set that to Other Current Liability type and then do transactions to that account.

I think when a gift Shopify it comes over as a payment item. and decreases the Gift Card Liability account. but now that I look at it I don't think the actual gift card product is setup to deposit into that account. Also this particular setup for returns that are refunded onto a gift card is a bit tricky because the original value for the funds has already been deposited and the gift card will be manually generated in shopify with no linked order in NS. This is why i would like the refund amount to be put in the liability account so that when the GC is used the account balances out. if this all makes sense lol

It does. I’ll try and explain on my end though I’m still hazy on your end. We use a non inventory item for GC redention with an income account for “Discounts Given”. That’s how the accountant had it set up. So that item used on a sales order decreases our income account. It actually decreases the total of the sales order in Netsuite. When refunded, it goes back into that account. We actually just use shopify payments as the payment mehod.
