Is there any mechanism on a form's available filters to limit the list in the filter drop down. for instance, to limit the list of vendors to inventory only or by some other arbitrary filter

I've done this before by creating a custom field with the filters and hiding the native field in the UI, then a workflow copies the value from the custom - native field.
