Hey everyone, I have an event workflow that is scheduled. I have a single result search for testing. When I click execute, the workflow doesn’t run on the single event record. Any ideas? The action is trigger on “entry.”
n
@Ryan Longenecker any additional excluding criteria on the WF? Anything on the Workflow tab of the Event?
r
Nothing, plan and simple
Just based off the saved search
k
That's odd. I'd try creating a new action that just sets a random field value and see if that does anything.
what is the action you have it doing?
maybe change the action to "scheduled" instead of "on entry"?
(not that it should need that)
j
cuz it’s not running till 2023?

hi @Ryan Longenecker I see the workflow is in ‘Testing’ mode, are you the owner of the workflow? Also, are you generating events that would trigger it? e.g. edit/saving a record. I don’t think the fact a search result exists, will trigger your workflow. You’d have to run it on a schedule to periodically see if there are search results.
d
Are you in a sandbox or production environment?
k
The test button on a scheduled workflow triggers it regardless of schedule - which also would be the event that would trigger it. Also - the workflow should still show in the logs regardless of if it's sandbox or not.

I have had issues executing scheduled scripts and scheduled workflows in a sandbox environment ever since they did the data center migration awhile back. Like you said even in a sandbox it should populate something in the logs, but what I experienced was that it simply failed to execute in our sandbox. I moved the scheduled scripts and workflows into our production and they ran just fine. Some of the issues I had resolved on their own later but I still keep an eye out for that. I don't know if anyone else has noticed something similar.
Just wanted to rule that out if he is in production, because otherwise I don't see the issue with what information we know

The OP is trying to manually execute the WF as a test, therefore the execute date / time has no bearing on what he's trying to achieve. @RyanN,did you check the log to see if the workflow actually triggered? Or is it that the action (whatever it is) just failed ?
r
Hey @David Hayden @Mika Hakkinen @KevinJ of Kansas @jen . I am using the “execute now” button in testing mode. I am the owner of the workflow. I put the date far away so it doesn’t trigger automatically. The search I have pulls one test record. The workflow isn’t triggering on the record and doesn’t show any signs of it being triggered. I have a very simple send email to myself to make sure it works but doesn’t trigger. I have it set to on entry to trigger right when the workflow starts. Not sure why it isn’t triggering still if anyone has something similar, let me know. Thanks for everyones comments!
k
I'd try creating a new workflow and see if that works.
Also - did you try changing the action from "on entry" to "scheduled"?
obviously neither of those things will matter if the workflow isn't firing at all when you hit the test button.
r
@KevinJ of Kansas Ill try changing it right now.
@KevinJ of Kansas schedule didn’t trigger it
k
my next steps are definitely new workflow and new search in that order to see if I can get past it.
r
Ill try that next
This is my second workflow actually ha. I started with another one and made a copy, that didn’t work so I started fresh
I’m wondering if something in my search needs to be changed for it to use the event
k
what's your search doing?
r
It’s pulling one event I created as a test event
criteria is using date
k
it looks like an event search - so probably not any crazy multiple records/joins
r
not at all
no joins
k
I can't ever get summary searches to get reflected correctly in a workflow.

it’s very simple ha
no sums at all
k
Looks pretty dang simple
r
ha its all simple and no idea why it wouldn’t trigger ha
k
I'd probably be calling NS after one more attempt at a fresh search and a fresh workflow
r
ok think I might

I generally avoid support when I can, but sometimes you just have to grin and bear it.
r
yeah
I know it’s going to be some stupid little thing like always
Contacting support now. I will keep this thread updated if anyone’s interested
I was told by support having an event search and only using date as the criteria and using this search for workflows is bad practice and needed to add another criteria. Just wanted to pass this along.
