Noob Manufacturing question. What’s the difference between an assembly build and a build work order? When do you use one or the other?
r
build work order is not a transaction, it's just a button that creates an assembly build (transaction) for you
m
OK. Do people mostly use a work order instead of an assembly build?
When do you use an assembly build?
r
an assembly build is a completed "built" work order
m
Ah. OK. Thank you so much!
r
make the work order to give to the worker to create the item, once they are finished build the work order to create the assembly build and put the finished goods in stock, and remove the components used from stock
the assembly build transaction puts the item in stock and takes out the components from stock
d
Assembly Build is to Work Order, as Item Fulfillment is to Sales Order, or Item Receipt is to Purchase Order.
m
Oh! I get it now. Great answers all!
n
In Netsuite an "order" transaction is something that's you are monitoring and going to do. As @Rob Cady says the Assembly Build is the actual impact.
m
So th ework order initiates the assembly build.
r
@Michael McNamara If you are heading down the path of Assembly Builds, go ahead and prepare for Assembly Unbuilds. We've taken that permission away from associates to prevent issues in our instance. Maybe it won't be an issue for you. Once the first build is complete, folks get curious about unbuilding.
m
Thanks Roy! I’ll keep that at the forefront.
