Is there a way to search for items in an Item field of an invoice using the Display Name without enabling the Show Display Name with Item Codes preference and without adding the Display Name to the Item Name/Code? Thanks!

you can add the "display name" field under

item fields...

join in either your criteria or as an available filter in a saved search. if using the latter, set the default text field filter to "contains" to allow for easier searching.

Actually, I need the Display Name when creating an invoice on the UI for the Item column.

Appreciate the help but it won't update the Item column itself or at least give us a hint on what to select on the Item column. Items are UPCs and Display Names do not include UPCs.

Oh, I understand what you're trying to accomplish now. I don't believe what you're trying to do is possible without custom functionality.

It affects our CSV import of invoices with thousands of lines and use UPCs alone as Item Names. That preference requires us to add the Display Name as well when importing transactions with items. We initially set the External ID to UPCs to resolve that but it was very inconvenient to import a new item which happens a lot. For now, we have agreed to temporarily disable that preference when we are about to import invoices (to be done at the end of the business day moving forward) so we no longer need to setup an External ID for new items and use External ID as reference type.
