Hi everyone, when creating a Sales Order with an item from a location that does not have inventory in the books, is it possible to set the setting to not create a backorder but to create negative inventory?
b
although it is a very dumb idea, you can setup your accounting preferences on item fulfillments to ignore commitments
its the
Fulfill Based on Commitment
preference under
Order Management
of your
Accounting Preferences

Can you clarify why it's a dumb idea? I just want to know if I've covered that reason
b
negative inventory means something is wrong
j
Gotcha!
Thanks @battk

Negative inventory also has a substantial impact on your accounting. Overall negative inventory is something I try to avoid if at all possible.
a
@Sam L if you have Bins enabled, there is no way to create negative inventory.
b
There are always ways to do negative inventory
a
weird, didn't think it's possible with bins. Wouldn't you get an error about insufficient quantity in the bin?
I know without bins we can get negative inventory. I have that with some clients.
b
just start deleting/modifying transactions that increase inventory
a
oh
but not within a normal flow? With Bins on, is there a way to fulfill more pieces than I have on hand? I don't think so
b
i dont think so
then again, i dont really try hard to get negative inventory
a
only on how to avoid it lol
