Can anyone explain what the Renew button on an Invoice does?

yes it exists. If it's the case and if properly configured, it should create a new contract and SO for your customer

Based on what I know about your business, I find it unlikely that you are using contract renewals.

I don't believe we are.. we are a manufacturer/seller of physical goods

I did a quick search for you. I found that it could lead to the creation of an estimate based on your invoice.

Thanks for doing that - it looks like Renew is not the solution to my problem at hand. Long story short, I wanted to edit an invoice in a closed period. But I know this isn't possible. I was hoping that Renew would essentially kill the original invoice and create a new invoice against the Sales Order with a date of today.... that's not the case
