Random question: it doesn't appear that I can send an email via saved search using the "email" field on customer as "recipient from results", is that expected behavior? Am I thinking about this incorrectly?

Please define your use case a bit more. Recipient from Results should be an entity/employee/contact (I'm uncertain on the last one)

your recipient from results should be the customer field not the email field. NS will automatically pull the email from the customer record.
