I've run into an issue with a customer who failed to remove inventory qty and value before inactivating a location. A year later, they turned on Bins and use the items in a new location. I can't do an inventory adjustment for it because it requires me to fill out the Inventory Detail, but there's no Bins to select. Any suggestions to fix? They previously did a journal to wipe the inventory value from the GL, but the itemized detail is all messed up.

Check out the "inventory Distributions" page and the "Bin Putaway" pages.

The solution for the initial issue would have been to have an admin active the location and perform an inventory adjustment off, so the value and quantity would have been removed (or an inventory transfer if it moved). You'll need to activate the location and do an inventory adjustment, then do a quick JE to counter the IA also. I would first do an inventory balanced saved search on the location you're trying to remove to validate the inventory attributes so you understand the detail that is or isn't present. If there's no bin, you can do a Bin Putaway then adjust it off. If there is a bin, then you know the info you need from the search.

Thanks @Pete Kastner @Rich Keller Is there a difference between a Bin Putaway and a Bin Putaway Worksheet? I only see the worksheet and it's impractical to work with because of the volume of items? Is there a way to import like the Inventory Worksheet?
The Bin Putaway worksheet looks like it will help me do the inventory adjustment later, but I don't want to manually putaway 4000 items.

Is it that just for the inactive location? If not, you may have a process issue on your hands. Bins are an item and location activation. Don't change the item level or you'll end up with a mess across all locations. You can change the inactive location as needed to help facilitate an easier inventory adjustment.

I was planing on doing the same as your initial solution. I'll need to reactivate the location. Do an inventory adjustment, and a JE to offset. They are not in Bins in that inactive location, but they do have real inventory in bins in other locations.
I can't change the inactive location to not use bins either, because it says it's already used on completed or pending transactions.

someone needs to use the bin putaway for all the items at some point. RF-smart had a custom script that tried to moved everything into a setup bin when RF-smart was turned on.
