question:  i'm looking for positive on hand inventory that has never sold. any tips on how to build a search on that?

i believe you have to use a summary criteria for that

specifically an item search for items grouped by name where the sum of transactions of type sales order is 0

if you start joining to transactions then items that aren't on transactions will be kicked out of the results (which are the exact things he is looking for)

i dont think it will really matter since its hard to have quantity on hand without transactions

yeah I don't think it should kick them out as long as he leaves transactions out of the criteria

i meant that the transaction join related filters should be fine. items that arent on transactions wont have positive inventory on hand

We have been using the search and it includes items not in transactions

are you sure it includes items not in any transactions

have you tried just creating a test item and seeing if it appears in your results?

the related answer <https://netsuite.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38028/> can get items without transactions since it uses summary criteria without adding standard criteria on the transaction join. i wouldnt use the absurd formula it suggests since it cant be created in the ui, but the idea behind it is sound.
