why don´t you try specifically setting it for gift certificates instead of in the generic email field ?
and by the way that only works if the gift certificate is bought through the web store

@Flo I've tried changing this field (bottom which sends confirmation), but it doesn't seem to work No matter what I pick, none of the ones listed there are representative of the emails actually being sent out. I get a generic text-only email confirmation. Even the "Standard" one has HTML in it to color code things, but that's not being sent either.
And when trying to preview the email sent to customer, I get this error
The email I'm receiving happens whether or not it's an Online order or me generating an SO
