Hey All, probably a shot in the dark, but does anyone have experience with setting up Sales Orders/Items related to the restaurant industry? It feels like a weird gray area since the “raw goods” are handled by workers who turn it into a sellable “item.” It just feels like none of the Item Types can encapsulate a Restaurant Menu Item or Transaction appropriately…

Your transaction type would typically be cash sale with exception of on account orders which would be invoices
Depending on how you want to handle inventory, you could do kit items. Then you would likely to cycle counts as inventory worksheets to true it up to actual inventory
Your biggest area of weakness is actually not the inventory or the sales transactions, but the cash over/under from daily counts. I would suggest a custom transaction for this with a script to control the GL impact
However, you could also do a standard custom transaction instead of a header only with more training for staff
Never actually done all this in NetSuite, just used to manage a quiznos, and custom built an excel workbook to manage all this stuff. Kind of piddly compared to what I could do with NetSuite now, but I haven't had an excuse to build a restaurant account in NetSuite, normally a bit out of budget for small franchises
I would probably avoid doing a sales order -> cash sale/invoice process outside of in advance catering orders, unless you are talking a sit down restaurant where they don't pay until after the meal
That said, the other weakness I would have to look at is how to handle tips in that scenario
Given me some area to think in tonight. Haha.

@KevinJ of Kansas Thanks for the insights! I’m actually not 100% sure how we want to be using Netsuite for this, since we have a 3rd party POS system we’re using (like Square but different). Mostly just trying to connect the two without breaking both in the process 🤦‍♂️ I’m glad to have provided some food for thought!
