Is anyone here in retail AND in the optical space? We're doing an analysis on our existing POS system (Lightspeed) and trying to figure out if we can update it to work better with our NS configuration or if we should be looking at a new POS system. If you're not specifically in optical, perhaps you're in medical devices so you have to be HIPPA compliant (prescription eyeglasses fall under this) and you have a solution you can talk about. Our biggest issue is that we need to get specific information relating to the way the glasses should be built that we need to track specific to each person (currently a custom record in NS attached to customer). Lastly, if you don't fall into either of these categories, but you're still in retail, I'd love to get some feedback on the solutions you have. We have a combination of cash sale purchases and sales orders that come from our retail environment. Feel free to DM me or respond to this thread. Thanks!!!

NS generally forbids anything that could make them have to be HIPAA compliant. Are you sure you can store that stuff in NetSuite?

ah, great question. i don't know that anyone ever checked or asked.... i know we have a copy of the customers prescription (image of it) saved as a doc and some of the measurements are transcribed to our custom record. I didn't realize this was an issue, any suggestions on where to go from here?
well, i clicked the link for one of the records and it shows that it's actually tied to BOX. so perhaps they are not in NS, bears some more investigation obviously. still getting up to speed on some business processes here. The retail POS question still remains though. Need a system that can handle custom information like that and can tie to specific orders and customers.

It's not the world's greatest POS system but I would be having a good look at NetSuite's own SCIS (SuiteCommerce In Store) if you have very specific NetSuite customisations you need to integrate with your POS. The trade off of poorer UX of SCIS vs specialty POS for reduced integration overhead could stack up. On the flip side there must be specialist software for your vertical that could remove the need for NS to be involved beyond ERP/Financial ie not CRM or sensitive data management.
