Hi All, we are scheduled to move to OCI this week. My ACS rep advised me that performance could be affected the first week after move. Has this been anyone else's experience? If so, was it significant enough that giving a heads up to the users was necessary or would it just cause undue panic?
j
IME, it will definitely affect performance, but then again, if you broadcast it super widely you're going to get a whole bunch of people complaining to you about normal performance which a) they wouldn't have brought to your attention if you hadn't said anything and b) you can't really do anything about anyway. Depends on how susceptible to complaining/the placebo effect your user base is. In my case I sent a note to just the finance (primary reporting) users letting them know that things would be slow and there wasn't really anything I could do about that, but to reach out if a specific report/process failed completely.

Thank you, James. I appreciate the feedback!

Yes when we moved to OCI our performance tanked. We ended up having to file 5 or 6 defects (1 for each record type). They supposedly fixed it but it never seems to ever get any faster
j
I second this, we still have some searches and scripts that never seemed to have fully recovered. Whereas others did. 🤷‍♂️ Support seems unable/unwilling to do much beyond additional table indexing and platitudes, so mostly we just adjusted our processes to the new normal.

Pull out csv’s with performance data for most used records in Application Performance Management. That way you have a snapshot of the performance before the move so you can prove that some records have degraded performance.

can I ask what service tier you guys are on? We were scheduled to be moved last week but it got bumped because of some clash. Still waiting for our new date
a
We had just upgraded to the premium tier a few months before we moved to OCI

Delay the move to OCI for as long as possible, is my advice. 6 months of pain for us. Although much better now, but still on occasion there are issues. First load particularly painful!
m
We are on the Enterprise tier. Unfortunately, we are past our reschedule time. Maybe we'll be lucky and get bumped as well. I like the idea of pulling performance records now to have on hand as I was reading that the logs will not show prior data to the move. Thank you all for the feedback!
m
We were very concerned based on the feedback shared here but didn't experience any notable slowdown after the move. On enterprise tier.
m
Thank you Michoel! That's good to hear! Our move to OCI was cancelled due to all the fun that was being had this week.
j
just to give a bit of feedback on our move. We moved two weeks ago, and our experience mirrored @michoel - no issues at all (Aussie OCI), and we're on "Premium" tier
m
Thanks for the feedback Jon! I appreciate it. We have still not yet been rescheduled for our move.
