Would love some input from this group... we are ramping up a new sales channel that has a unique packaging requirement which will be reflected on the BOM in NetSuite. However the internal debate is between Supply Chain and Finance whether should we be creating a new assembly item/SKU for this variant or keep existing assembly item/SKU and just create a new BOM? From SC side, a new SKU makes sense because item/location/quantity at the warehouse is more systematically correct, but from finance/sales and cost reporting perspective, more easily being able to report on single SKU across multiple sales channels is more advantageous. Thoughts?

What is your costing method?
If you keep as the same item your costing will get all screwed up. I would make it a separate SKU. If it can’t be used in the same fit, form, function as the other one it needs to be a unique SKU because it’s a unique thing

Average

Yeah so your average cost will get skewed because sometime the sku is built at $10 (without special packaging) and at $15 with special packaging. So all your shipments would just say the cogs are $13 or some average of the 2. So some orders get over charges and some get under charged
