Hey all...What's the best way to recognize a shipping expense on the item fulfillment? I don't want to charge the customer for shipping, but I want the shipping cost to be part of the COGS hit on the IF. Is that possible?
k
You could do a line item for shipping that books to your COGS account on the GL, or even make a subaccount on the GL ie COGS: SHipping But realistically this would be closer to a freight account than the cost of the good itself, since shipping outbound is variable per customer

But I can't explicitly define the cost of that item after the fact. I'd have to create a PO and receive it and ship it I think. Sounds like a pain.
seems silly that nothing native in netsuite to handle this
Thanks @KJ McLaughlin...just wish there was something better
k
Are you only shipping the item to the same place, every time?
a
meaning the same customer?
its always going to be a different shipping cost
k
Exactly, so, if the shipping cost is different every time, it would be diffiuclt to have a definitive cost of the item

Thanks @Wolf H Prolecto is usually where I go first, but this feels overly complicated. An additional dropship PO and receipt for each fulfillment. We won't know the cost of shipping until after it ships, so we'd have to come back to the SO, add this shipping item as a dropship item, and then receive the PO. It's doable and maybe we'd script something around it, but I was really hoping for something simpler. Oh well...thanks!

Totally makes sense. I agree, if nothing native exists this is something the system needs.
