DO: Use REST API DON'T: Use SOAP

SOAP is a very old(~15 years) and inefficient protocol, but the REST API is not considered stable yet, so building your own RESTlet API would be the best option.

Before going REST API, better check which records you want to integrate as some records are still in Beta and not GA. It is not advisable to use beta records for your production account integration.
