How can I make "parent" entries from a list not show up in multi-select fields? See the two examples in red. This is an example from our Chart of Accounts, but we have the same problem on other fields that use the same kind of parent-child hierarchy to create entries in a list. We never use 8300 or 8500 because they are the "parent" entries, we only use the child entries when selecting an option from the pick list.

For accounts specifically, you can set the parents as Summary type and then I believe they will not show up there because that also makes them inactive.
I'm not sure you can do anything about it with other record types other than inactivating the parents.

@RJMNS I've tried inactivating the parents of item records (we see this issue on items too), but doing that inactivates all of the children of that item as well. Is there a way to hide the parents from the pick list?
There's no way I'm the only Netsuite user that's ever gotten tired of seeing parent items in a pick list from which we will only ever select the child options. There has to be a way.

You're probably right, but I'm not aware of a way to fix that. Best thing I can think of is to set that Max Entries in Dropdown setting low so you get the type-ahead drop-down lists. It won't remove them from the list, but then at least you don't have to scroll past, you can just search.

@Dan Warner you should be able to deactivate JUST the parents if you use "inline editing" on the list screen. Ticking the box and hitting submit doesn't cascade to the children too
