anybody know what triggers the system to change the GL impact like this?

My guess would be costing from a non-average cost item. What costing method is being used for the items on the transaction?

yeah @Kevin Zwemmer i agree with @Nicholas LaHara if the COGS changed after the fact, you'll see this.
